So my Evelyn is about to turn two years old in two weeks. Over quarantine I had noticed that she wasn't using a lot of her words as much, and I think it was because I was home all of the time and I was kind of anticipating her needs instead of having her communicate them.

Realizing that we really needed to beef up how much she was talking, and how much she was being expected to talk, I also wanted there to be practice throughout her day in more fun ways. I stumbled across Speech Blubs as an app. She uses it on one of my phones, and she has come such leaps and bounds.

As a little background: at her 18-month appointment we had some concerns that she wasn't meeting a couple of the expressive speech developmental milestones that her pediatrician asks about in a screening. They weren't all that concerned about it, but they heard me out, and they agreed that we could be doing some more practice at home. They also accepted my request for a referral for a speech and language evaluation. She passed it with flying colors and was found to be on the lower end of expressive speech, but in the normal range.

When you start, the app has you fill out a little developmental questionnaire for their age and what expectations there are for their age, and then it recommends how many minutes a day your kiddo should be doing it. It recommends 10 minutes a day, and it keeps track and reminds you. I thought it might only hold her attention for five minutes. Usually I have to pry it out of her hands, because she loves the game so much and she finds it so rewarding.
