01 / Esprit Park

City option

Talk about what your child notices.

The 2025 completed renovation created a northern off-leash dog meadow and a southern dog-free meadow, with service/support animal exceptions. A May 2026 operator update recorded a cordoned-off fire-damaged boardwalk section on the southern edge. Minnesota and 19th Streets, San Francisco

You can choose one comfortable spot and follow what your child notices. Describe a movement or a plant with a few familiar words, then wait. A pause gives your child time to point, make a sound or add a word before you move on.

Questions from parents

Where can I start with speech therapy in San Francisco?

Start with the local contacts above. Your child’s age and home address can help identify the appropriate service. Ask how to request an evaluation and what information to provide.

How do I request a school speech evaluation?

If your child attends an SFUSD public school, ask the school principal about requesting a special education assessment. For children ages 3–5, check SFUSD’s preschool intake route. If your child attends a private or parochial school, confirm the assessment route with the district where that school is located. A neighborhood name alone does not establish district assignment or eligibility.

Does Speech Blubs replace a speech therapist?

Speech Blubs provides activities for practice at home with a caregiver. Local professionals provide evaluations and individual care. Ask your child’s therapist which home activities fit their goals.

Which languages are available in the app?

Speech Blubs’ official FAQ currently lists English (American and British), German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Czech, Swedish, Polish, Hebrew, Hungarian, Lithuanian and Romanian. Check the current language information and choose what fits your family before subscribing.

Where can I read or play with my child in San Francisco?

The park and library cards on this page suggest specific places to visit together. Check their linked official pages for current hours, access and events before you travel. If a destination is outside your neighborhood, plan the trip and confirm the entrance you want to use.

How much does Speech Blubs cost?

Speech Blubs is a subscription app. Check the current price, available trial and renewal terms directly in the quiz or your app store before subscribing.

Choose the right meadow at Esprit Park

Esprit Park is at Minnesota and 19th Streets in Dogpatch. The completed renovation divided the park into two meadows. The north meadow is an off-leash dog play area. Dogs are excluded from the south meadow, with exceptions for service and support animals.

The renovation added a path that divides the meadows. A May 2026 operator update recorded a fire-damaged section of southern boardwalk that had been fenced off. The source does not confirm a repair date. Check current notices and follow any barriers rather than assuming that section is available.

Carry one observation into a story

You can choose one comfortable spot and follow what your child notices. Describe a movement or a plant with a few familiar words, then wait. A pause gives your child time to point, make a sound or add a word before you move on.

Potrero Branch at 1616 20th Street is a separate book visit to plan. Its children’s collections include Spanish and Chinese and limited Arabic, Italian and French materials. Ask about an available picture book and use it later to revisit one observation from the meadow.

When you want speech support

If you are worried about your child’s speech, use the San Francisco contacts above. Ask which assessment route fits your child’s age and home address. Bring a few examples from daily life. Speech Blubs offers home practice; a professional can assess your child’s needs and discuss next steps.
