Start with the local contacts above. Your child’s age and home address can help identify the appropriate service. Ask how to request an evaluation and what information to provide.
If your child attends an SFUSD public school, ask the school principal about requesting a special education assessment. For children ages 3–5, check SFUSD’s preschool intake route. If your child attends a private or parochial school, confirm the assessment route with the district where that school is located. A neighborhood name alone does not establish district assignment or eligibility.
Speech Blubs provides activities for practice at home with a caregiver. Local professionals provide evaluations and individual care. Ask your child’s therapist which home activities fit their goals.
Speech Blubs’ official FAQ currently lists English (American and British), German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Czech, Swedish, Polish, Hebrew, Hungarian, Lithuanian and Romanian. Check the current language information and choose what fits your family before subscribing.

Presidio National Park, San Francisco
The Outpost at Presidio Tunnel Tops uses wood, stone, water and sand for climbing, crawling and imaginative play. The operator describes it for children aged 2–12, with challenges that increase gradually. Your child can stay with one feature rather than try every level of difficulty.
Check the current seasonal hours before leaving. Main paths are wheelchair accessible, but the mat for wheelchair travel over sand must be requested at least 24 hours ahead. Accessible restrooms are near the Field Station. Parties and group gatherings are not allowed inside the Outpost; a family play visit has different arrangements from a group event.
If your child chooses the fallen tree, follow the story they give it: a house, a tunnel or a place to hide a pretend animal. Describe one action and wait for the next idea. The water features may also interest them, so a towel or change of clothes can help you plan the visit.
Presidio Branch at 3150 Sacramento Street is a separate San Francisco book option. Ask for a children’s story about an animal’s home. Back at home, a box can become the tree or tunnel your child imagined, with space for them to decide who goes inside.
If you are worried about your child’s speech, use the San Francisco contacts above. Ask which assessment route fits your child’s age and home address, and bring examples from daily life. A professional can assess your child’s needs and discuss next steps; the outing and reading ideas here are family activities.
