Talk together during the day.

A walk, a book or a snack can give you a reason to talk together. Follow what interests your child.

These places are examples from across the city. Check their addresses before planning a visit from your neighborhood.

01 / Temescal Regional Recreation Area

City option

Talk about what your child notices.

A separate Oakland land-based outing. The operator lists an accessible south playground and accessible East Shore Trail, but not wheelchair access at the north playground. As checked October 9, 2026, swimming is closed due to an algae Danger Advisory and the second wooden Lower West Shore Trail footbridge is closed. Recheck both notices before travel. South entrance: 6502 Broadway Terrace; north entrance: 6500 Broadway, Oakland

On an open land route or suitable play area, describe one movement your child chooses. Pause after “up we go.” Keep the activity away from the water.

Questions from parents

Where can I start with speech therapy in Oakland?

Start with the local contacts above. Your child’s age and home address can help identify the appropriate service. Ask how to request an evaluation and what information to provide.

How do I request a school speech evaluation?

Find the school district serving your home address, then ask its special education or Child Find team about the evaluation process. A neighborhood name alone does not establish district assignment or eligibility.

Does Speech Blubs replace a speech therapist?

Speech Blubs provides activities for practice at home with a caregiver. Local professionals provide evaluations and individual care. Ask your child’s therapist which home activities fit their goals.

Which languages are available in the app?

Speech Blubs lists app content in English (American and British), German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Czech, Swedish, Polish, Hebrew, Hungarian, Lithuanian and Romanian. Check the current language options in the app and choose the one that fits your family before subscribing.

Where can I read or play with my child in Oakland?

The park and library cards on this page suggest specific places to visit together. Check their linked official pages for current hours, access and events before you travel. If a destination is outside your neighborhood, plan the trip and confirm the entrance you want to use.

How much does Speech Blubs cost?

Speech Blubs is a subscription app. Check the current price, available trial and renewal terms directly in the quiz or your app store before subscribing.

Speech and language support for families in Claremont, Oakland

Choose a regular book visit or a calendar activity

Rockridge Branch at 5366 College Avenue is one Oakland library option for families in Claremont. You can choose a regular book visit without planning around a group event. Let your child pick a cover, then talk about one picture before deciding whether to keep reading.

The current branch calendar lists Family Storytime. Open the event details for the date, age guidance and participation arrangements. On a warm day, remember that the operator lists air conditioning only for the meeting room and teen zone. It does not describe the whole library as cooled. The multi-story building has an elevator and accessible bathrooms.

Match the Temescal play area to your access needs

Temescal is a separate Oakland outing with a south entrance at 6502 Broadway Terrace and a north entrance at 6500 Broadway. The operator says the south playground and its drinking fountain are wheelchair accessible. It says the north playground has no wheelchair access. East Shore Trail and Landvale Station Trail are also listed as wheelchair accessible. These differences matter more than choosing an entrance by the park name alone.

Check the live alerts first. On October 9, 2026, the operator says swimming is closed because of a blue-green algae Danger Advisory. A separate notice, updated October 8, says the second wooden footbridge along the Lower West Shore Trail is closed for refurbishment. Keep the outing on an open land route and away from the water; do not plan a full lake loop around that bridge. April–October parking fees apply when the kiosk is attended, and the kiosk is cashless.

Arrange advice separately from a family outing

If you are worried about speech, ask the Oakland services above which assessment route fits your child. Oakland Unified directs families with children under three to their physician or the Regional Center of the East Bay. For kindergarten or an older grade, ask the child’s school about an assessment. A familiar book or play routine gives you conversation to enjoy while you arrange advice.
